Rome opens to the world in Jubilee 2025
A renewed and resplendent Rome welcomes pilgrims from all over the world for the twenty-fifth Ordinary Universal Jubilee of the Catholic Church! This is an event of global importance, unique in its kind, a unique opportunity for meeting, exchange and union between all the people who, bound by faith in the Church, decide to make a pilgrimage to the center of Christianity. Each of them will have the goal of experiencing a moment of sharing and prayer together with the Pope. The theme chosen by Pope Francis is “Pilgrims of Hope“. This is a celebration that lasts a year and includes a very dense and specific calendar of events dedicated to the different social, artistic, territorial, work and generational communities that make up the Catholic universe. Let’s take a few examples:
- from February 15 to 18, the Jubilee of artists;
- from April 28 to 29, the Jubilee of people with disabilities;
- from May 1 to 4, the Jubilee of workers;
- from July 28 to August 3 the Jubilee of Youth will be held;
- from October 4 to 5 the Jubilee of the Missionary World.
These are just a few examples of the various events that will take place throughout 2025. To find out the entire calendar, go to this link.
Each of these events will include numerous events organized between Rome and the Vatican and will determine the presence in the area of pilgrims and tourists eager to participate and take home an indelible memory.
As per tradition, the Jubilee opened with a solemn and eagerly awaited event by the entire Catholic world: the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, which was held on December 24, 2024. On that occasion, Pope Francis blessed the Jubilee year with a gesture that symbolizes the passage that every Christian must make from sin to grace. The Holy Door will then be closed on January 6, 2026 in the event that will conclude the Jubilee year.
The Jubilee Walks and other events planned in Rome
In addition to religious meetings, the Jubilee also includes specific itineraries for those visiting Rome. For example:
- The Jubilee Walk among the Papal Basilicas: an itinerary that takes pilgrims to visit the four Papal Basilicas in Rome, which are St. Peter’s in the Vatican, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major and St. Paul Outside the Walls; these are the “major” churches in Rome that are characterized by the Holy Doors, which are opened by the Pope for the duration of the Jubilee year.
- The pilgrimage of the seven churches: this is an itinerary created by St. Philip Neri in the 16th century, and which over the last five centuries has become a true Roman tradition; along the 25 km of its route, pilgrims will be able to visit the entire city, up to the Appian Way and the Christian catacombs; the seven churches included in the itinerary are:
- St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican;
- the Basilica of St. Mary Major;
- the Basilica of St. John Lateran;
- the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls;
- the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls;
- the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem;
- the Basilica of San Sebastiano Outside the Walls.
- The Walk among the Jubilee churches, these are the churches chosen and indicated as meeting points for pilgrims where masses and meetings will be planned in various languages. At this link you can find out about all the Jubilee churches and the events planned at their locations.
- The Iter Europaeum is the walk of the churches of the European Union that unfolds between 28 stages in as many national churches and basilicas of Rome. Do you know what national churches are? They are churches that are located in the center of Rome and that are historically linked to individual European countries for cultural, artistic reasons or for a tradition of welcoming pilgrims from a particular State of the European community. Let’s look at a few examples:
- the church of San Luigi dei Francesi is the French national church;
- the church of San Stanislao is the Polish national church;
- the church of Sant’Antonio dei Portoghesi is the Portuguese national church;
- the Church of San Pietro in Montorio is the Spanish national church;
- the Church of Santa Brigida in Campo de Fiori is the Swedish national church;
- the Church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli is the church of the European Union.

- Patronesses of Europe and Doctors of the Church is the name given to a particular pilgrimage route that can be traveled during this Jubilee of 2025; it celebrates the venerable figures of European women saints, who over the years have been proclaimed by the Church as Patronesses of Europe and Doctors of the Church. The route touches some churches in Rome that have a particular role in recalling the memory of these holy figures. Some of the main figures are Saint Brigida, Saint Catherine of Siena, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Saint Cecilia, Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus, Saint Teresa of Avila. This pasta will then be served with a sauce of your choice such as carbonara, cacio e pepe, pesto or tomato and basil.

- If you love Italian artisanal Gelato, the Gelato and fettuccine class in Rome is the best choice. You will learn the basics of preparing artisanal gelato, using a professional gelato machine. In addition to gelato, you will be able to learn how to prepare fettuccine, starting from flour and eggs. Finally, you will taste the fettuccine and the gelato comfortably seated at the restaurant table.
- If instead you want to learn in an hour how to make fresh pasta, Insideat offers you the 1 hour Pasta class in Rome. The chefs will be at your disposal to quickly create a perfect dough with quality Italian ingredients and to obtain the fettuccine by cutting them manually. This cooking class will allow you to have a fun experience in a short time, without having to give up visiting the city of Rome.
- If you are a pizza lover, the 1 hour Pizza class in Rome by Insideat is the best choice you can make.
